Currently working with a year 9 student who is in OLC (Centre for students with learning disabilities). He is a cheerful young boy with a big smile on his face. When I first met him, he saw my Lego key chain and mentioned how much he loves Lego and it got us talking about what he likes and what he dislikes and how home life is and how school life is. Unfortunately, he mentioned that he is being bullied quite a lot in school. Hopefully as we continue to work together, we get to set some ways on how these issues could stop and be prevented.
I was working with a year 10 student who was referred to me by the deans and by the school counsellors. One of the counsellors mentioned he has a bit of an imagination. When we first met, I introduced myself and told him what I do for the school. He acknowledged what I did and went on to talk about what his opinions were about the world and how he thinks the world works. I was really looking forward to working with him more but unfortunately, due to circumstances he was kicked out of school. These are the moments in which I feel quite saddened as he has a whole heap of potential but unfortunately one minor thing ruined it. I still hope to see him around.
I am currently working with a year 12 group of boys. I ran a programme with them called “Strength”- A boys mentoring group based on Hillsong Australia’s programme “Shine”. It focuses on three important themes. “Courage”, “Significance”, and “Resilience”. The programme teaches them the difference between being a male and being a man. I am looking forward to work through another programme with them soon and hopefully they could help me run strength programme with the younger students.
