Token is one of the youth workers that is placed in Pakuranga College. This is the third year that Token has been working with the students there and he has become a respected member of the youth work team.
What helped you decide to become a youth worker?
I decided to become a youth worker because I wanted to help young people. Growing up, I really looked up to my granddad who always managed to bring the neighbourhood kids around to our house and just have a great time, the kids really looked up to him and I wanted to make a difference in young people’s lives..
How did you then become a youth worker?
I was a youth leader for Howick Presbyterian Church and my then youth pastor asked me if I wanted to become a youth worker for my school and I accepted the role.
What do you like most about being a youth worker?
I love hearing the stories young people bring. Love spending time and doing life with them and get to see them grow and mature to young adults.
When you’re not working with youth of Pakuranga Collge, what do you spend you spare time on?
In my spare time, I love to dance and go to the gym. I am a part of Hopskotch Dance Company and also a youth leader for Howick Presbyterian church.
