What is the YCDT

We are passionate about seeing our young people reach their full-potential.  Our Trust  was established in 2010. Through collaboration with other like-minded agencies, we at the YCDT place quality youth workers into our local community.  Primarily we provide financial support and managerial oversight.

Our Trust was formed out of a heart within Howick Presbyterian Church to support young people in it's community as they mature.  It is a part of its commitment to the health of the local community. .  Although based out of a local church its activities are inclusive of all people regardless of their religious conviction.   www.howpres.org.nz

Our major partner is the Young Life New Zealand Trust, which is an already established youth work provider and trainer in five local colleges. YLNZ provide the initial set-up and budgeting consultation, recruitment, training, supervision, and acts as the key contact with schools.

Combined, our strategy focuses on long-term presence, rather than short-term programs.  Quality youth workers, who enter the world of young people, are part of a wider pastoral care team within schools and the community.  Forming key bridges to counselling, health, careers / transition, and Deans, youth workers act like a member of an extended family.  Through campus and community presence, one-on-one mentoring and small group programs, youth workers build positive lasting relationships with young people.  Through these relationships, young people are able to form vital connections to the adult world.

 We have three further dreams:

1) to expand our collaboration with other community-minded organisations. In 2013 we have partnered with a Parent Network which provides a forum for parents to discuss issues related to the young people in their care. www.facebook.com/TheParentNetwork

2) to support young people through increased numbers of community youth workers.  In 2014 we have a goal to increase its support to be able to support another two youth workers in the area.

3) to inspire the community to care about the future of their young people.  For these young people represent  society's future leaders.  Who they are becoming now, will shape the future community.
